Agreed with you on all of that... I very often get overwhelmed and feel rather dumb after listening to way more experience Flash developers talk about how it's better to do it this way. Good example of that is the signals thing by Robert Penner, and this sudden wave of "events in flash suck!". I have never had issues with creating custom events or just with using events in general... Yet I see all these higher level developers complaining and seeing something I have never encountered... Then I start thinking "you know what, maybe I am doing something wrong, maybe I am a bad developer?". Then try and spend all this time implementing all these api's to fix my "broken" code.

Even though I have been doing this Flash dev thing for like 4 years now, I still feel like such a newb... But I have come to terms that I shouldn't be trying to force the level of greatness that all those other super smart developers already have and just take my time with it... Trying to follow EVERY single optimization, and use EVERY single work around for my "broken" code will only slow me down (which could get me fired).

Apologies for the rant, but really liked your article, kinda hit a sore spot I guess :-P
